Hi Devon,

I believe starting with WindowsXP SP3 (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm now using
Windows 7 Ultimate), the double-backslash is now a valid path entry. Try the
following path in the command prompt
cd c:\\windows\\system32

Subject: [Jbeta] Backward compatibility and backslashes

Hi -

I'm trying to catch up on J7.01 so we can talk about it at NYCJUG next week.

In my usual fashion, I'm trying to get the console to run under emacs. I've
also copied the "Addons" directory over from 6.02 to have those scripts
available. While dealing with the oddities I've dealt with before - the
USERFOLDERS_j_ variable has to be created and such - I noticed that
SYSTEMFOLDERS_j_ has an entry for 'gtk' that has a doubled backslash, e.g.
C:\Program Files\j701\system\extras\\util\gtk . While this has no effect I know
of, it probably should be corrected.

I like the idea of using forward slash as the universal path separator - this
eases at least one cross-platform issue. I notice Cygwin does this too
- they claim it's ISO - so I guess that's a good thing.

I look forward to diving into this.

Regards,

Devon
