Thanks for the positive feedback on keyboard shortcuts. It is critical to get this right and the browsers have restricted the playing field so much. Comments pro/con are welcome as are alternate suggestions.
One keyboard shortcut alternative is to use, say, j as the escape. Removes the slips of getting ctrl+key instead of ctrl-then-key but requires pressing j twice to get a j letter. jfile page needs work, but I think the main tools are now in place. For example, now that dynamic 'page dialogs' are easy to use (ijx labs or ijs replace) it probably makes sense to handle new as a page dialog that has a text box for the name and buttons for file, folder, name. It is easy to turn off the log (contenteditable) focus mark with CSS. It does introduce the problem of having a click outside the log give focus but that is probably not too difficult and may not even be necessary. The browser has a default setting and this is what you get now. IE has no marker and I've not missed it. On the other hand I no longer find the FF/Chrome/Safari marking a distraction and whatever is 'normal' for a browser is worth something. The favicon stuff is working properly and I just need to turn off the smoutput. For some reason the request happens periodically even after the browser has a copy but there is not a problem as far as I can tell.
