I reinstalled J and updated JAL and the error was corrected. I like the new primary menu placement and arrow navigation. I wasn't so happy about how selecting any menu entry scrolled the log to the first line and left you there if no menu option was selected.
ESC worked for me for everything but ESC-F, in both Firefox 3.6.10 and IE 8.
