Hmmm. After the false report I gave about the right vs left Ctrl I was sure I'd 
checked this out carefully before reporting, but am now not able to reproduce 
it on Windows. 

However I can confirm it isn't working on Ubuntu running in a VMware virtual 
machine. This is probably not surprising and there may well be ways of 
reconfiguring the VM to accept it - I haven't investigated as yet. Maybe 
leaving the option of using Ctrl+. as an alternative escape sequence is a 
useful workaround for such circumstances.
