Thanks Dan!

Yes, but it'd be unfortunate if the jsoftware server would go into
maintainence or the JHS-beta into another test iteration Thursday morning.
It would very likely work but I can *rely* on my on server. Domain vanity
has got nothing to do with it.

No, it doesn't.

The ~addons/ide/jhs directory includes a jum.ijs script which gives you
the User Manager. But my first naive impression is that it would have to
be run as a start script (instead of core.ijs).

It is the jlogin.ijs script which apparantly creates the login gate
I am seeing. The following check apparently explains everything
about the user part:

        if. (count<:LIMIT)*.(u-:USER)*.p-:PASS do.

That doesn't look too prohibitive but I keep sticking on that page, with
"count" going higher and higher. I cannot remember it for sure anymore,
but I *think* it was even beyond the supposed threshold of LIMIT=:10.
(I'm writing this from home now, on a classic 25-line terminal incapable
of running a javascript-capable browser, so I can't check again what
exactly happens.)

So, fellow beta-testers:
Is JHS password protection working for you? ANYONE?

Nice idea, I'll certainly keep it in mind for my own regular setup.
Not on this occasion, though. To put things into perspective:

The official topic of my talk will be how to use %. to solve
linear/near-linear equation systems.

As it happens, both the conference host and perhaps some attendees will
be very interested in getting J solutions delivered across the web.
So I'll be using this opportunity to sneakely introduce to them what's
currently happening in beta land. I won't bring any laptop with we,
but use whatever machine is available at the conference room to access
my jhs server some 350 km away to make m point. Messing around with
somebody else's browser would defeat some part of the exercise.

A zillions thanks for responding so quickly and compiling all kinds of
ideas -- much appreciated!
