I suspect the "font bug" is a server issue which is triggered if tthere are preferences stored for SBG fonts for a player with that mac address. Hence going through different versions of softsqueeze could cause it.
I think the server could be made to be more robust to this - I will raise a bug and look at it. But this will need to be post 6.5.
