Forgot . . . more issues: 5) Upon installing SlimServer, it doesn't start up automatically. It used to, I believe, start up automatically, and continue to do so, presumably reading what the settings had been before. It doesn't seem to do so now; I have to start it manually, and tell it I want automatic starts.
6) When I do start it up manually, the right-click "automatically run at system start" grays out and can no longer be selected. I don't see why that should be the case; surely that mode should still be settable even if it is already running.
