Saying SC will be run as an application "by default" implies that it's
possible to configure it to run as a service during the installation
process. But from this and the other threads about the Service Enabler
it sounds as if that isn't the case. That the initial installation will
now _always_ be as a user application (with the exception you note,
where it had been running as a service), and that you have to then run
the service enabler.
It's not clear to me why all of this functionality isn't just a part of
the the installer. Then if someone wanted to change the startup type
they could just go to Add/Remove programs (or to Start > Programs >
SqueezeCenter > Startup Configuraion) to run the installer again.
They'll need to be an Administrator, but that's also going to be a
requirement to successfully run the Service Enabler.
I liked the idea in another thread of having an 'Advanced' path through
the installer. Normally, this is given as an option during the
installation to do a "Typical" install or a "Custom" install. The
Custom path could offer the option of installing as a service and would
run the Service Enabler code. Ideally (don't know if this is possible)
it would determine if the user has sufficient priviledges and gray out
the Service option if not. And _include_ simple wording in the
installer that explains this to the user.
