I know that feeling :) Okay, I'm not a designer, so I can't really offer solutions, but I can try and point out what feels wrong. On the attached PNG, I've added red lines to show the 'metric' issues (thanks for the link Skunk). Why are there so many different sizes of gaps? In terms of horizontal red lines, why aren't the playlist thumbnails the same distance from the border as everything else? Perhaps they should be aligned with the now playing thumbnail? Why does the grey mouse over bar extend the edges on the right hand side, but not on the left? For vertical gaps, why is there such a big gap between lines in the left hand panel? Why aren't the top headings for the tree list made more prominent. Likewise why are the track titles made more prominent on the right hand side. Essentially why are the fonts all the same size in the two panels, surely some information is more important than others? Look at the thumbnailed album view, The breadcrumb, the number of items, the A-Z list, and the album titles. They are all in the same font, you need to shake it up so that the album titles (the most important bit) are what's most prominent. Also, while on the thumbnail left hand side view, why isn't more done with the white space beneath the album titles. Use a bigger font for the title and then add some useful info in the white space underneath (artist, number of tracks, etc). It seems from the CSS that the font is set as sans-serif, which means most browsers default to Arial / Helvectica (I think), these are print fonts really. Consider using Tahoma or Verdana instead, or have a look and see what the Web2.0 crowd are doing. Obviously using sans-serif means that users can choose their own font, but I can't imaging many do. I've added some grey boxes to illustrate how much white space appears on the screen. In fact, it's not much more than the SC7 classic skin (esp. on the LHS), but the classic skin feels like there is less. I think this is due to the classic skin using a lot of horizontal grey header bars. Is the tree control on the new skin really necessary? Couple of other points: Why are the some UI elements 3D and some 2D. Why are the save and clear buttons a different colour. (I quite like the colour they are.) Why do the play delete buttons jump inwards why you hover of the playing track, try and find a UI solution that doesn't make that happen, it's a bit jarring. I'd love to see a version without the 3D buttons and with squared mouse over grey boxes. What minimum screen resolution are you targeting? 800x600, or 1024x768? PNG is from Safari 3 on Leopard 10.5.1. Anyway, I hope you find this useful and not too overwhelming.
