Sometimes UNC paths aren't UNC paths. I don't know if this has anything to do with your problem or not, but it's something to watch out for. One very odd thing that SlimServer does is that it will automatically translate UNC paths into mapped drive letter paths whenever it can (The situation is generally when the server is running as an application and the user has mapped drive letters defined for himself).
