Left and just came back - it was still in that state.  I unplugged the
AC and plugged it back in.  It booted and went straight to the "hold
the brightness" screen.  I executed the upgrade and it was successful
this time.  Strange.  I am hardwired and have done firmware changes
many times without issue in the past.

Oh - the only change I made was that I switched from app mode to
service mode earlier today.
