I was thinking the same thing.

It's a bit weird when you click the search button to perform a search.  It 
displays the results screen; as it's a new screen, the search input bar is 
hidden, but the mouse is still over the search icon, so when you try to move it 
away, the bar becomes visible again.

I think on this screen, as the form has a search input control and button, you 
don't want to display it in the header.

Also, if you click the button with an empty search string, I'd just display the 
search page without trying to run a search (it currently displays "No search 
results").

I think the search input bar could always be displayed in the header - no need 
to be clever and show/hide it with mouse-over.

Alternatively, the search input bar could be hidden if the mouse is moved away 
from either the input control or button for more than 5 seconds.
