Yup, server.sql log was set to debug and quite a few of the third party plugins had log level set to higher than error. All are set at error now.
I'm not certain if these settings would affect the size of the scanner log file though (wouldn't they only affect the size of the server log file?). It still appears to me to sensible for the scanner log file to be deleted and recreated from scratch whenever a wipe and rescan is actioned.
