No problem.  On-access scanning isn't something you can normally turn
off - I don't know Norman very well, but Zone Alarm, Norton and McAfee
on-access scanning systems all remain active, even when the program is
"disabled".  It's considered a feature.

Can you try adding the slimserver folder and your music files to the
list of exclusions for on-access scanning and then reboot.  Does that
improve the situation.

Also, are you accessing your files on a network drive at all?

Slimserver scans several database and temp files every time it accesses
a file (so it knows what files from your database to play).  Some of
these files are quite large and it may be that Norman is scanning them
every time they are called.

It's only a theory, but can you try and exclude these files to
prove/disprove?

Also, have you run the Network Test plugin (check the Help entry on the
SS interface or the wiki for more info) to check it's not a network
issue?
