No problem. On-access scanning isn't something you can normally turn off - I don't know Norman very well, but Zone Alarm, Norton and McAfee on-access scanning systems all remain active, even when the program is "disabled". It's considered a feature.
Can you try adding the slimserver folder and your music files to the list of exclusions for on-access scanning and then reboot. Does that improve the situation. Also, are you accessing your files on a network drive at all? Some of these files are quite large and it may be that Norman is scanning them every time they are called. It's only a theory, but can you try and exclude these files to prove/disprove?
