Steve, thanks for the link. As it turns out, it is not that easy to tell my particular virus software (TrendMicro Pc-cillin Internet Security 2007) not to scan a particular file type. Instead, I have to tell it all of the file types to allow. I suppose I could tell it to ignore the Windows\temp directory but that seems imprudent from a security standpoint.
