So you don't have iTunes updater plugin? That starts iTunes in the backgrund and sometimes provokes the exact same behavior on my system (to be fair it's not iTunes updater, but iTunes itself, which crashes).
Also: I didn't mean slow computer but slow internet connection (like UMTS or something). With slow I don't mean the data rate, but the latency (ping). That's another issue I'm sometimes experiencing.
