Is somebody drawing up a list of use cases for syncing?

Currently we have "take control of" and "join up with" directions. One
problem is that each makes sense in certain use cases -- "take control
of" for the Controller and Web UIs, where it's pretty simple to change
your "perspective" to be that of the Squeezebox that's playing the
desired content (and where the focus of the UI -- especially the web UI
-- is an existing playlist); and "join up with" for the frontpanel and
IR "player" UIs where you're more likely to want to affect the output
of the device that's within arm or IR reach of you than you are, IMO,
to foist your nearby player's content on another room.

I'm open to the notion of zones, but I can't imagine how to implement
that in a way that makes sense. I guess zones as saved named sync
groups, but that could get cumbersome. I "only" have 6 players, but
that's dozens of possible sync group combinations. Let's say I have a
2-player "main level" zone -- how would I decide which player should be
the "master" (whose current playlist should govern the zone) when
activating that zone (whether saved or created ad-hoc)?
