Jim & Jonnio, what you describe sounds logically very much like the current Sync Groups model. Plopping a player in one of your zones sounds just like the "player UI"'s "join up with" sync behavior. You mainly seem to be suggesting a different UI and different language.
Jonnio, I really like the idea of saving a player's playlist so it could be restored when the player drops out of a sync group/creates its own zone.
