Is this perhaps beta hardware? I seem to recall that there was a point when the u-boot kernel changed. The symptom was that in certain cases, the scrollwheel would cease to function. It happened to me, and a fair time after the change had been made. I contacted Mickey and he got the instructions and the update to me. If you happen to have one of the usb/serial dongles then you can do it at home.
