There's nothing to build after the download, so you are fine. In my case SC was running when I ran the tool. I did have to reset the Receiver (by holding down the button until the red light flashed quickly).
The only other thing I can think of is the firewall, and it sounds like you are onto that. I was doing a wired setup, so I followed the very short instructions on Robin's web site.
