I thought this part of the discussion was in relation to browse albums when
year is also to be reported after the album name. eg:
album1 (1990)
album2 (1991)
Greatest Hits (various)
Alternatively, report all years in the brackets:
album1 (1990)
album2 (1991)
Greatest Hits (1990, 1991, 1998)
So, sorting position when there are multiple years for songs on an album is
irrelevant, unless you want to browse albums, sorted by year (which I find odd
- I'd Browse Years, and then depending what year I choose, I'd see all albums
that have any songs from that chosen year).
But, either way, if an ALBUMYEAR was specified as well as original year of
production for the song (YEAR), then that would be reported instead.
