I agree that it would be helpful to differentiate more clearly between the 7.3.4 and 7.4 branches (whether this is by alpha/beta or something different). However, I don't think this lack of differentiation is what's causing the current issues.
As others have noted, Squeezeboxes are less of a niche product than perhaps they were - there are a lot of new users who don't necessarily appreciate they are testing beta software or what that means in practice. Whether it's the google model of running year long betas, or just a desire to run the latest/greatest version, it seems reasonably clear a lot of people are choosing to run the most up to date testing branch, without necessarily being committed to actually testing the code day in day out. Which is fine - no issue at all with people choosing to do that, but it's hardly cause for complaint when things go wrong. maggior, all of your points are good ones, but it's been noticeable to me that most of the "outraged" posts have been from people who didn't even appear to know they were running beta software, or that the result of that is that features may be missing and/or broken. My personal view is that only 7.3.4 (or the equivalent branch) should be publicly linked from the Logitech website. Those who come on the website and discuss issues in the beta section will soon get to know about 7.4 and where it can be found, and it's up to them if they then decide to run that (with health warnings). Too many people (including Logitech support, if what some posters have said is correct) are recommending 7.4 as a panacea for any problem that people have with the software. Basically, people shouldn't be running 7.4 unless they are actually prepared to test stuff. -- Siduhe Who am I on 'LAST.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/siduhe)?
