I removed all of my id3v1 a long time ago, and only use apps configured not to write id3v1, so I won't have a problem. I also had flac files with FLAC AND id3v2.3 tags, which was causing problems in some apps so I stripped all id3 tags out from flac files. I would have thought that users would only want to read id3v1 if there were no id3v2 tags, because id3v1 is rubbish. i.e. truncated text, no support for many things.
