That's my philosophy too - fix broken tags.

I removed all of my id3v1 a long time ago, and only use apps configured
not to write id3v1, so I won't have a problem.  I also had flac files
with FLAC  AND id3v2.3 tags, which was causing problems in some apps so
I stripped all id3 tags out from flac files.

I would have thought that users would only want to read id3v1 if there
were no id3v2 tags, because id3v1 is rubbish.  i.e. truncated text, no
support for many things.  If someone has tagged only with id3v1 and then
adds replaygain tags in id3v2.3, then that's bad tagging that they
should fix (but I think most apps would write the tags back as id3v2
tags anyway).
