there was. when a file is valid (playable/viewable by other music apps) and doesn't show up at all in SBS, thats a problem. Philip Meyer;478896 Wrote: > It may extend further than id3v1 vs id3v2, in that other tag formats > could be merged together. can you expound? Andy said APE is read first, then v1, then v2. whats the issue? Read id3v2 tags if they are present, otherwise id3v1 is > sensible. b/c SBS is not a tag editor, its a music server. its main focus is playing the music you have. it can't do that if your files don't show in the library. i think most people will want to see their music, than not. the old way they couldn't if they had incomplete v2 tags. this would be extremely confusing, if they even noticed it was missing in SBS, if they saw their music displayed normally in other apps, like winamp. (the scenario, which u can reproduce from the file attached in the bug, was v1 files later having RG tags applied. in that case, ONLY RG was in v2, the rest of v2 was blank. still looked fine in winamp (and other apps), but missing all together from SBS) Philip Meyer;478896 Wrote: > > >secondly, you can't just remove v1 support. many users have ONLY v1 > tags. > > > I agree. i'm glad. (how do i know? b/c most mainstream music apps try to keep v1 and v2 congruent). in the past you have always argued for SBS to *show you* whats wrong in your tags. well, how can it do that if it doesn't even show you anything? the fix is better than how it was before, for precisely that reason. Philip Meyer;478896 Wrote: > > >fourth, almost no one is going to have properly updated and > maintained > >v2 tags, and garbage v1 tags. > > > How are you so sure about that? well, i said it above, but most users use mainstream apps, and most mainstream apps by default keep v1 and v2 congruent, to avoid confusing discrepencies in their own native usage. again, the problem is when a specific v2 tag is applied, like RG, when a file only had v1 tags to start. not all apps copy v1 into v2 when the RG (or whatever) is applied. i believe that will be more common than someone purposely (or not purposely) having v1 and v2 tags be incongruent. but even if it weren't and you don't agree, its still better to have SBS show you SOMETHING than to have the music be totally missing. -- MrSinatra www.lion-radio.org using: sb2 & sbc (my home) / sbr (parent's home) - sbs 7.4.2b - win xp pro sp3 ie8 - p4(ht) 3.2ghz / 2gig ram - 1tb wd usb2 raid1 - d-link dir-655 - 35k mp3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MrSinatra's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70456 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
