I wouldn't dream of adding files to my music folder and scan until I'd fully
processed the files.

I often rip disks to a rip folder and let them sit around for days before I get
round to checking tags, adding album art, applying replaygain.

Eventually I do the above stuff, maybe adding info/review text files to the
folder, move the album into the proper place in the library, scan in MusicIP,
and then scan into SbS.

If you rip directly to music folder structure, chances are you'll forget which
ones still need tag checking, replay gain tags added, album art added, etc.

Personally, I disable rescanning in the background, as occassionally mass
changes to tags are sometimes made. I prefer to ensure everything this sorted
out first and then tell the software when to rescan. Otherwise there is
unnecessary disk chatter, etc. eg. MusicIP can auto-detect changes, WMP can
auto-detect changes, etc. If they all detect changes at the same time (inc.
other OS things, like virus checkers), they are all trying to read and process
the same files simultaneously. So I turn them all off! I can see that many
people will like auto-rescan though.
