Yep. But as soon as you sync it with a source outside your mac you have
a very, very hard time to keep your library up to date since iTunes has
zero functionality to support that. It's good for a single device it
sucks in a network.

What I said.
#2 is (and that's way more of a problem with apps than music): Try to
sync to two Macs: 
My primary source of addresses and calendar is my MacBook Air which
doesn't have a disk big enough to keep all my music or even all my Apps
(I have the Navigon App which is 1.6GB). Try this scenario. It sucks so
much that I always want to kill somebody whenever I have to sync my
iPhone, the whole setup is so useless that I have even given up
completely on trying to sync calendar, I only use the one on the
iPhone.
iTunes is a very, very, bad example for a "good" software, it's the
second worst product I use from Apple (the worst being said MacBook
Air).
