Like Michael said, the embedded branch also works for normal servers running FatSBS. The main difference is that embedded branch uses SQLite, although MySQL remains an option (that apparently isn't working for at least some users, maybe all). So you can run the 7.5.0 embedded branch, you just need to download it from a different place. See http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=71768. I've been running it for a few weeks on my Ubuntu server and it has been working well. Scan times and web ui have been noticeably faster with SQLite, much moreso than I got from applying the MySQL tweaks previously.
