There are definitely many processes during startup sometimes. Often
they just seems to increase to around 10 and then decrease to a single
one after a while but sometimes it runs out of memory/CPU before it
decreases and then the machine hangs. It feels like some kind of timing
problem when some part of the startup takes too long.
Here is a log from 7.4 when it successfully decreased the number of
processes to 1 after a while, so it didn't crash this time. I'm just
posting it in case it gives you some idea:

And the console output for the same run is attached as a log file.
I don't see any strange in the logs.
When I succeed getting the problem in a 7.5 release, I'll post those
logs too. However, I haven't seen anything strange in the logs so I
suspect they are going to say the same thing.
During the above run the following command listed about 10
slimserver.pl processed during a few seconds during the startup.
