whether it is MySQL or SQLite, it seems to me that all the settings
would be best set by some kind of "auto tuner."  surely there is some
script out there that could benchmark your cpu, ram, hard disk speeds,
and so on and then take into account your library size, art settings,
etc... and determine from that the most optimal settings for your SBS
install?

it could be a plugin, only to be run after at least one "normal,
default" scan has taken place, (so it had the library stats).  it could
also report back the stats, ie. hardware, file types/counts, etc...  and
that info could be aggregated for public knowledge.

of course, the tuner would have to assume the machine was ONLY used for
SBS, and not multitasking.
