Oh it appears that using your squeezebox without a network is not officially supported http://bugs.slimdevices.com/process_bug.cgi. So disappointed. I dont think its fair to advertise a device as having the ability to playback local usb music, if it requires you to have a home network. That is just wrong. I spent hours on these forums finding the right hard drive to work because my old WD didnt and now i have to return it all. So glad i kept the receipt
