My whole library of >50k tracks is about 99% flacs with embedded cuesheets so I'm highly invested in this issue. Andy has made several important improvements for support for flacs+cuesheets in the past year. At the moment, 7.6 is working better for me than any previous version of SBS, in terms of support for this format.
I just updated to svn 31867 and I'm having no problem with playback. Have you gone to Settings->Advanced->Performance and disabled "Automatically detect changes"? AFAIK, the automatic scanner with 7.6 is still flaky. With manual scans, things have been A-OK for months. Generally, what I do with a new install of 7.6 is to 1). disable automatic scanning, 2). stop the SBS server process, 3). manually delete all the .db files from the cache directory and finally 4). restart SBS and observe if the external scanner process has fired up and is doing it's job.
