I tend to agree, although I still worry about losing functionality for older players that isn't in newer players. i.e. onebrowser offering support for the lowest common denominator, and the lossed functionality never getting put back. But if memory consumption and performance are drastically affected by the change, it sounds like a non-starter. Sounds like something is wrong though, as one might expect memory consumption to be lower if all interfaces share the same back-end implementation.
