Well I did not get guidance but I am impatient. So I tried it myself. First workaround is to revert back to perl 5.10 (as indicated above), start the squeezeboxserver, and then upgrade again the system to perl 5.12, so all dependencies are satisfied and (don't ask me why) sbs will still work, although if it stops (or you reboot...) and you want to start it again you have to go through the pain of a re-downgrade of perl etc etc etc. Quite a painful workaround.
I found a much better one, that so far is working fine.
