AFAIK there's a ~120k library around (thanks Caleb!).

No idea.

This one's rather qualitative than quantitative: we have a library with tons of
reference files using the various codecs available.

I started using my "older" digital images (digicam from the 1990s, scans of my
slides taken in the late 90s and some in the 2000s) for testing purposes too.
They tend to have rather odd tagging. All in all my personal test library is
about 16k music (flac, mp3) and 13k photos (probably 97% jpg, 2% RAW, 1%
bmp/png/gif).

Whoever said so had no idea. Unfortunately this often is the case with
marketing and sales people :-(.

The community sure is important, as we can't have all the oddball files which
are out there in real life. Look at the scanning issues on Windows: I've tested
this on 3 different Windows systems, no problem. Nobody in-house was able to
reproduce the crash. In such cases we need the community's help to understand
why some files/configurations fail, while we are happy campers.

I think companies like Logitech often avoid hard figures, just to be on the
safe side. "However, a general rule of thumb is that a music library containing
over 10,000 tracks should use Squeezebox Server running on a PC or Mac" - but
nobody says that even 1000 will work ok.
