The point is not to be a desktop application or a server software.
This distinction is anyway quite obsolete for domestic use.
We are not talking about big systems for companies.
Talking about server software means you need big performance (better
performance than available on the desktop), and many users connections
(less than 10 is not many ...)
Almost no domestic NAS meet those definitions.

Yes NAS are popular, but this is marketing hype, plus the fact it is
usually cheaper than a computer (but usually much less powerful ...)

Since I am part of both sides (developer and manager), I do not trust
"blindly" the manager ...
I am not asking you to trust me.
I am stating that I do worry about squeezeboxes future if software
cares more about a minority of technical aware fans, than normal
customers needs.
I do see what kind of people buy those products around me, and how they
use them.

Almost none uses Linux or NAS, or cares about multiroom or plugins.
They do care about ease of use, stability and user interface.

The fact is that
- geeks will come on this forum, tell their opinion and needs, so you
hear about them
- average customers will remain silent, may be put the product for sale
and forget about it. You probably will never hear about them.

The worst complaint you can ever get from customers is when you never
get to see them again at all.

Logitech cannot support squeezebox product line for the first category,
if the second category is lost.
