I am just testing the picture scanning with Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.0 - r32999 on MacOS X 10.6.8. I first selected my Mac's Pictures folder but to no avail (I does not seem to work well with my Aperture Photo Library - crashes and finds no photos). I then tried scanning a folder containing about 8000 (or so) pics instead. I seems to work fine, but appears to be a rather sluggish affair.
