I have set maximum playlist size in the advanced settings to 3000 so that should not be causing the problem. I had noticed that when the playlist fired, the server logged errors against songs with special characters, so I removed those from the playlist thinking it would solve the issue, but it doesn't. The server in question is not particularly powerful (older 1.6ghz celeron processor and 2GB of RAM) but it has never had issues like this before.
