Are you William, one of the people I've been talking to via email about DSD functionality? I've been quiet in public about the complete fuster cluck, that has been the "upstreaming" of the DSD functionality. I'm still getting my arse toasted over the fact that upstream could have supported at least one platform "out of the box", the one we had working for several months already. What I've asked for, which is now in the hands of Triode and Michael, is that the PlayDSD plugin, (which allows the selection of DoP on a per player basis), is included in core LMS, disabled by default if that is the only way to get it included, dsdplay binaries included in core LMS for the platforms we can support out of the box, and the dsdplay source added to slimserver-vendor git, in the same way as the source for eg. faad2/flac, with a buildme.sh script in the sub dir, so others can at least attempt building it on platforms where dsdplay binaries are not provided. I've also asked to make the "-r RESAMPLE" param over-rideable from the PlayDSD plugin and make the upsampling args available there as well. So, as you can with squeezelite, you can specify an attenuation value for the DSD->PCM output. Whether any of this is going to happen, or happen any time soon, isn't in my hands. Quite frankly, if I'd have known the mess this was going to end up being, I'd never have pushed for DSD functionality being "upstreamed" to start with.
