Trying to think about this on a higher level, without involving how the
music is tagged, wouldn't this be true ?
ALBUM ARTISTS[/B] - CONTAINS ALL ARTISTS THAT HAVE RELEASED AN ALBUM
UNDER THEIR NAME
*ARTISTS* - CONTAINS ALL ARTISTS THAT HAVE BEEN THE MAIN ARTIST ON A
TRACK ON ANY ALBUM
TO ME THIS MAKES SENSE, BECAUSE THEN IT WOULD BE LOGICAL FOR ME WHEN I
WANT TO LOOK FOR THE MUSIC.
- IF I WANTED TO FIND AN ALBUM, I WOULD LOOK IN *ALBUM ARTISTS
- If I wanted to find a track, I would look in *Artists*
This would in my mind mean that compilations could be listed in:
ALBUM ARTISTS/VARIOUS ARTISTS
And under each specific artist performing on the compilation under:
ARTISTS
I still feel that it's pointless to have a *Artists/Various Artists* men
because the purpose of the b]Artists* menu is to find a track, not an
album, if you want to find an album you would use the *Album Artists*
menu.
The exception for all this is classical music, because in a classical
music library you would likely want to find the album by composer and
composers only exists in *Artists* menu, but this is easily solved by
using Michaels plugin to add a top level *Composers* menu and restrict
it to music in the genre Classical.
There is obviously many different opinions here, if we want Michael to
implement something when he is back after the weekend we probably need
to find a way which we can use to get an agreement. Any thoughts how to
best do this ?
