That would be my first preference - just sort them by albumartist = artist I'm browsing, then by non-compilation albums in which the artist I'm browsing appears on and finally by compilation on which the artist I'm browsing appears. Doing that would solve it for me, but it's been heavily opposed by a few participants in the past principally on the basis it would mean not respecting the user's album sort criteria. However, for anyone wanting to distinguish between an artist's own albums, those they've guested on and VA compilations this presentation would be infinitely better than then current listing. The user's album sort criteria can be served in each of the subcategories, even better just add what's being proposed as additional sort order options. If that makes the code too complex iro presentation options why not have a menu structure that offers the existing sort options for each of the following sub-menus [logic in brackets]: - Browse all albums on which the artist appears [retain album listing as currently presented in LMS] - Albums by the Artist [only show albums where albumartist = artist] - Albums on which artist guests [only show albums on which artist appears in a track but is not albumartist and not a compilation album] - Compilations on which artist appears [show all albums on which artist appears but is not albumartist and is a compilation] That should meet many use cases and not be overly onerous to implement. Ideally one more option could be added (but I suspect implementation may be challenging): - Show artist=albumartist, then artist=guest, then compilations, implementing sort-order on each of the sub-lists SqueezeWand | 'Vivere DAC MKI' (http://vivereaudio.com/post/2013/08/16/DAC-I-is-Born!.aspx) | 'ATC SCA2' (http://www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/electronics/source-pre-amplifiers/sca2/) | 'ATC SCM100ASLT' (http://www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/loudspeakers/tower-series/scm100aslt/) *'Linux finally gets a great audio tagger' (http://www.ubuntugeek.com/linux-finally-gets-a-great-audio-tagger.html): 'puddletag' (http://puddletag.sourceforge.net/)* - now packaged in most Linux distributions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ audiomuze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33613 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101248 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
