Here's something else we've had on the backburner for too long: playing tracks without the need to scan them. The request has been on bugzilla for almost 9 years (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2333 - thanks for staying with us all this time, jjzolx! :-)).

The most important use-cases that come to mind:

- listen to temporary items, eg. from a USB stick your friend brought over
- check your newly ripped tracks before putting them in your main music folder
- listen to music while a scan is running (yes, it's back!)

The way this works is by treating such tracks similar to remote tracks, which are not stored in the database. I would expect some bugs here and there, where LMS forgets about them being "volatile". Please keep reports coming.

The new "Browse filesystem" mode is disabled by default, as it could be confusing alongside "Browse music folder". Go to your player's Extended Browse Modes configuration to enable it.

BMF will automatically use this mode when used while a scan is running.
