the problem seem to be that I see the update notice in the logs, but it
does not appear in the GUI. From the logs (with server.update debugging
enabled):

I restart my LMS server at 0600, i.e. after the above check, but before
I next look at the GUI. Could that be relevant?

I'm using the standard skin, with Chrome 50, on Mac OSX.
