Translations were done by several different translators, al least I
think this what happened with the Dutch translations? Which leads to
different interpretations and inconsistencies (e.g. track, number, song,
track number).

Very likely, yes. LMS has seen dozens of translation passes over several years. I would be surprised if there was always the same person doing it. Though they use to guarantee a certain level of consistency by using databases with existing translation of terms and phrases.

One of the biggest issues though is the lack of context. Translations are done by external partners. But they might be translating the nutrition table for a candy bar one day, the UIfor an audio player like SB the other day. They don't know the product. They probably even don't have the product in their hands when working on the translation. And even if they did, pretty often it's hard to figure out where to find a certain phrase.

But also the decision to name certain new features, like 'Library views'
will be hard to translate (or to find a short term for it) in any
language ;-)

Agreed. I've fought many fights with our localization team around this. Eg. they decided to translate "playlist" to "Wiedergabeliste", even though the major players would use the English term in German, too (eg. Apple, Spotify). Hardly any real-life user I know would call that thing a "Wiedergabeliste". Either they call it a playlist, or they don't know any name for it.
