Michael, I found that both the DSDPlayer Plugin and C-3PO invoke sox to play or transcode DSD. However, only the mansr fork (linked above) seems to be able to do that, at least on an ARM platform. See also my inquiry and Marco C s reply in his thread: C-3PO plugin, a transcoding helper.
