I think it is just due to historical order of addition. Caustics were enabled by default before creation of the option. Cycles guideline was to have every high quality/low rendering feature enabled by default. The developer who added the option wanted to disable caustics. So, he added a "No caustics" option. Maybe at this moment, there was a problem with saving enabled option of Cycles UI in startup.blend.
But a "Caustics" option enabled by default like "transparent shadows" one would be the same that what we have, now. 2014-08-15 3:40 GMT+02:00 gandalf3 <[email protected]>: > This has bugged me for a while now.. > Is there particular reason the "no caustics" option in *render settings > > light paths* is called "no caustics" as opposed to just "caustics"? > > It seems > ( > http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:2.5/Source/Architecture/RNA#Properties > ) > it's preferred to avoid such names, so is there some special case here > that I'm missing? > > -- > -gandalf3 > > _______________________________________________ > Bf-committers mailing list > [email protected] > http://lists.blender.org/mailman/listinfo/bf-committers > _______________________________________________ Bf-committers mailing list [email protected] http://lists.blender.org/mailman/listinfo/bf-committers
