I think the issue is: Is there anyone with major AP in your group that will play? If so, you might play with 3-4 at most.
Also, I think ensuring that the 'splainer knows the rules backwards and forwards, having a very good explanation, and the nifty little player aid....that IS on the Geek.....helps IMMENSELY. First play will likely be LONG, but most FF games are on the long side anyways. I'd say a proper first game would prolly take 3-5 hours. Subsequent game MUCH less.
