I think you may have Puerto Rico confused with San Juan. RftG is similar to San Juan (Tom Lehman helped with the development of San Juan, and took the concept further in creating RftG). It isn't very similar to Puerto Rico at all. I highly suggest that you try it, although be prepared to face a steep learning curve the first few games. However, that being said, overcoming the initial learning curve is well worth the effort as it is an extremely fulfilling game that sets up, plays, and tears down quickly. (It didn't get to the top 10 for no reason). Give it a try with an open mind, and you'll be glad you did.
