We have hive. I like it as it is very portable. My 10 year old daughter enjoys it as well.
I would add Dominion to your list. I got it for Christmas. I have played once with four people (before I got it) and once with two. I have the Catan card game, which I do like, but I would get Dominion out first. I like getting games that are so flexible in played two as well as playing more.
