I agree with earlier - Through the Desert would work great with an 8
year old. It's not complex, and it has cute little camels! I used to
play it when my daughter was 4 and we only had to leave out one rule.
Now she's 6 and plays with all the rules...she can't usually win
against adults, but we have a lot of fun playing.
