I never memorized a bestiary tome. But there are wargamers, eurogamers, amerigeeks, ... so there are different flavors of rpg gamers (perhaps those D&D folks memorize stuff? I think the mages must do it...). The geekiness of boardgamers can be seen right here: just read the 'Unopened/Unplayed Games' thread :) Ok, from a behavior point of view one could argue that RPG talk is more weird than BG talk. But to my experience it is equally weird to the uninitiated. If we start talking about BGs or RPGs in lunch break, the non-gamers at the table tend to react to both in the same way :) And then there are those boardgames that borrow heavily from RPGs. And the RPGs that have a boardgame inside. So I tend to not think in factions.
